What Is Accelerated Resolution Therapy (ART) and How Can it Help Me?

Jul 29, 2025 | By Mary Black

Are there things in your life that just seem impossible to let go of? Are there things you have talked about at length, and yet still seem to take up too much space in your mind? Are there moments that bother you that you don’t want to talk about, but yet you wish you could be free of? Holding on to these memories and moments is your brain’s way of protecting you from anything similar happening again. But what actually happens is these painful memories pop up and interfere with your life. Accelerated Resolution Therapy (ART) is a way of taking back control and putting you in the driver’s seat of your life (which is where you belong)!

Accelerated Resolution Therapy (ART) is an empowering, powerful, and effective therapy technique; it is an eye-movement based approach that helps people quickly process and let go of painful memories without having to talk about any details (ART, 2025). Painful memories stick out in minds like a book on a bookshelf, not inline with the others; ART is a method of pushing the book in and, in turn, transforming your life. Your therapist will guide you through various steps including visualization and then frequently checking on how your body feels. You are in total control throughout the session, the therapist is simply a guide. You will always have the facts of what happened, but you will lose the things that have been standing in the way of the life you want.

ART is commonly utilized for those experiencing symptoms of PTSD, and it is also a life changing option for those clients experiencing symptoms of complicated grief, anxiety, depression, substance use disorders, and more.
