What Is Speech & Language Therapy?

Speech & Language Therapy helps children improve communication, speech production, language development, feeding skills, and related areas that may affect social interaction, learning, or emotional well-being. Therapy is tailored to each child’s unique needs and developmental goals while working closely with parents and caregivers throughout the process.

Frequently Asked Questions About Speech & Language Therapy

What happens during a speech therapy evaluation?

An evaluation typically includes discussion with caregivers, observation, assessment activities, and review of communication or feeding concerns to better understand your child’s strengths and areas where support may help.

What is childhood apraxia of speech?

Childhood apraxia of speech (CAS) is a motor speech disorder that can make it difficult for children to coordinate the movements needed for clear speech. Children with apraxia often know what they want to say but have difficulty producing sounds and words consistently.

Does my child have a speech delay?

Children develop communication skills at different rates, but difficulty speaking clearly, limited vocabulary, trouble combining words, or challenges understanding language may be signs that additional support could help. A speech and language evaluation can help determine whether therapy may be beneficial.

Do you work with parents and caregivers?

Yes. Family involvement is an important part of the therapy process, and we work closely with caregivers to support progress both during and outside of sessions.

How often are therapy sessions scheduled?

Frequency varies based on each child’s needs, goals, and treatment recommendations.

How do I know if my child may benefit from speech therapy?

If your child is struggling with communication, speech clarity, feeding, language development, or voice-related concerns, an evaluation may help determine whether therapy could be beneficial.

Do I need a referral for speech therapy?

Referral requirements may vary depending on your insurance plan. Our team can help guide you through the process.

What age groups do you work with?

Our Speech & Language Therapy services primarily focus on children and adolescents. Recommendations are based on each child’s individual needs and goals.
